DANC 110 — Dance History
This survey course explores dance in historical contexts from pre-literate civilizations to the 20th century. It addresses various sociocultural and political forces and their influence on the development of dance. Topics include theatrical dance forms, social dance, ritual dance, as well as critical analysis of race and gender in dance. This course is intended for all students interested in expanding their aesthetic appreciation and understanding of dance as universal creative human behavior.
