MUSC139 — Asian Drumming Ensemble 3: Korean Percussion
This ensemble will explore traditional Korean drumming practices, their use among rural farmers, and their use in social protest (i.e. Japanese occupation, pro-democratization movements, to the ousting of President Park Geun-hye). We will learn advanced techniques of the Korean drumming traditions pungmul, samulnori, and nongak and play the four main instruments: ching, kkwaenggwari, puk, and changgo. Enrollment Requirement: MUSC 138 with a grade of 1.0 or higher; or instructor consent. Satisfies Requirement: Humanities/Fine Arts/English and Diversity Course Fee: $20.00 Course
