BTAC145 — Introduction to ICD Coding
Introduces the International Classification of Diagnosis code (ICD) diagnostic coding, the numeric classification of disease and injury, coding methodology, and guidelines. Demonstrates the importance of accuracy and specificity in code selection acquaints students with the different forms of medical data, and lays the foundation for advanced coding and medical record analysis. Students code from both reference books and the utilization of an online based encoder. Teaches students to assign valid diagnostic codes using authentic source documents. Provides an overview of Diagnostic Groupings (DRG’s) and other clinical vocabularies such as the Systematized Nomenclature of Medicine-Clinical Terms,(SNOMED-CT). Enrollment Requirement: AP 100 and BTAC 125 with a grade of 2.0 or higher; or instructor consent. Course Fee: $50.00 Course
