ETHS 210 — F Ethnic Studies for Educators Seminar 3 Units
54 hours lecture per term. This course prepares students to utilize the core concepts and frameworks of ethnic studies for application in K-12 classes with a focus on grades 9-12. Emphasizes the unique origins of the discipline and distinct departures from Eurocentric curriculum and pedagogy, as well as historical and contemporary inequalities reproduced within mainstream education and schools. Topics include current ethnic studies research and education policy, the role of identity in teaching and learning, collective struggles for educational justice focusing on Native American, African American, Asian American, and Latinx communities, the knowledge produced by these communities, and strategies used for resistance and liberation.
