STS1302L — Intro to Surgical Tech Lab

This course aligns with subject matter covered in the Introduction to Surgical Technology didactic course. Basic skills related to surgical case preparation will be introduced and practiced, developing skills that will be built upon in the next lab course. These skills include: basic medical handwashing, Foley catheter insertion, Vital Signs, open gloving, utilizing and opening surgical supplies for case set up, decontamination, sterilization, and disinfection, identifying, handling, and passing instruments, surgical scrub, gowning and gloving, principles and practice of aseptic technique, an introduction to patient assessment, principles of electricity and robotics, and the specialties of surgery is included.
