OTH2420C — Phys Rehab in Occp Therapy
This course equips students with the essential knowledge and hands-on skills required for Occupational Therapy Assistants (OTAs) to support adults facing medical and physical challenges commonly encountered in physical rehabilitation. Students will explore the causes, symptoms, prognosis, and medical management of various conditions, with a focus on how these conditions impact occupational performance. Emphasis is placed on translating theory into practical, client-centered treatment plans that enhance engagement in meaningful activities. Students will learn to incorporate adaptive equipment, assistive devices, compensatory techniques, and contextual modifications into interventions. Foundational skills such as functional transfers, mobility strategies, orthotic use, and positioning techniques will be introduced to promote participation, ensure safety, and prevent complications. This course focuses on developing therapeutic use of self and designing personalized interventions that foster independence, enhance quality of life, and empower clients in all areas of occupation. As one of the four core "intervention courses," it lays a critical foundation for effective practice in physical rehabilitation.
