ATF2305 — Instrument Flight
This course provides the training required for the FAA Instrument Airplane rating. For students choosing to fly with Sunrise Aviation, the course includes 23.7 hours of dual flight instruction, 14 hours of simulator instruction and 9.4 hours of pre-/post flight briefings. For students choosing to fly with Sterling Flight Training, the course includes 35.0 hours of dual flight instruction and 8.75 hours of pre-/post flight briefings. The course requirements for this class are met when the student earns their Instrument rating. Note: For the Instrument Rating, at least 30 hours of ground instruction are required by FAA regulations. FSCJ teaches this content, using College faculty, via the ATT 1120 Instrument Rating Ground School class. It should be noted that the hours above are based on FAA-syllabus minimums, and students will often exceed these minimum hours. The costs for these additional flight hours are **not** covered by the course fee. **Pilot students are expected to fly at least 3 flights per week, not counting Sundays.** Students who cannot commit to such a schedule are not likely to pass. This course also has special requirements which students must meet prior to enrolling: 1) Students must hold a minimum of an FAA 3rd Class medical certificate (Current 2nd Class for GI Bill® students); 2) Students must be U.S. citizens or have TSA authorization to start flight training; and 3) Students must meet with the Program Manager to verify documentation, review course requirements and flight training costs. Florida State College at Jacksonville provides flight instruction through a College-contracted flight school.
