AML2010 — Early Ameri Lit: Col-Civil War

This course is a critical study of selections from American Literature from the colonial period to the late 19th century. American Literature is studied in the context of historical and cultural developments to ensure that students appreciate how the humanities interact with broader issues in human culture in America and beyond. This course is suitable for students without prior literature study experience and can be taken as a stand-alone course or as a part of the two-course series with Late American Literature: The Civil War to the Present. This course includes works important to the Western Canon.
