RED 3309 - Teaching Early and Emergent Literacy Add to Personal Catalog RED 3309 - Teaching Early and Emergent Literacy College This course prepares pre-service teachers for effective, foundational literacy instruction from birth through grade 6. Pre-service teachers focus evidence-based instructional strategies grounded in the science of reading and understanding and applying reading and writing strategies for explicit, sequential, and systematic instruction and assessment of oral language development, phonological and phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Pre-service teachers examine and apply evidence-based practices for students with reading difficulties, including students with dyslexia and English Language Learners.
