ETH 030 — Chicana/o Culture 3 Units
This is an interdisciplinary survey course designed to study the four stages of cultural/historical development of Chicana/o and Latina/o American culture and the U.S. Southwest. Specific areas of interest include an analysis of the culture concept and its application to the Chicana/o and Latina/o American communities with an emphasis on self-determination and liberation. A cultural politics approach examines a wide range of expressive arts, such as: muralism, film, music, literature and folklore. The survey will include an analysis of race, gender and sexuality, migration and globalization.
