HIS 141 — History of Asia: 1500 to Present (3) (3,0)
This course presents an introductory survey of the historical development of various Asian civilizations from the end of the classical period in 1500 to present, including China, Japan, and Korea. Students will also study Taiwan, Vietnam, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, the Philippines, and other Pacific Islands. Students will analyze Western colonialism, imperialism, communism, the world wars, globalization, and other issues through the early twenty-first century. This approach will give students a foundation to build an understanding of Asian geography, history, politics, religion and culture. Students will compose historical arguments making use of a variety of secondary and primary sources. (1.1) Fulfills the ECC/IAI General Education/Social Sciences requirement.
