Presents an analysis of ethical issues arising within modern medicine and the health care professions, such as paternalism and truth-telling, euthanasia, abortion, modern reproductive technologies, nurse -patient and nurse -physician relationships, civil commitment, and allocation of scarce medical resources. (3 lec, 0 lab) EMS/EMSP 237 Paramedic Emergencies III 3 Credits Focuses on the assessment and management of a wide range of medical emergencies encountered in the prehospital setting. Students will explore the pathophysiolog y, recognition, and treatment of neurological, gastrointestinal/genitourinary (GI/GU), and endocrine disorders. Topics include stroke and seizure management, acute and chronic GI/GU conditions, diabetic emergencies, and other metabolic disorders. Emphasis is placed on patient assessment, differential diagnosis, and evidence - based treatment strategies. Through case studies and classroom discussions, students will develop critical thinking skills necessary to provide high -quality care for patients experiencin g complex medical emergencies. EMS/EMSP 239 Paramedic Emergencies IV 3 Credits Focuses on the assessment and managem ent of obstetric, pediatric, and neonatal patients in the prehospital setting. Students will study pregnancy-related emergencies, complications during labor and delivery, and postpartum care.
