Phlebotomists are health care professionals that collect blood specimens for laboratory testing. Laboratory testing is an important tool physicians use to evaluate, diagnose, and monitor treatment for patients. Phlebotomists are employed in a variety of patient-care settings, including clinical laboratories, reference laboratories, clinics, and physician offices, insurance companies. The Phlebotomy program meets the Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) standards. Upon successful completion of this certificate, students are eligible to apply for the Phlebotomy Technician exam (PBT) through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) to become a Certified Phlebotomist.
