MART1078 — Basic Training Revalidation
This course is made up of four separate Coast Guard-approved courses. (1) Basic Firefighting teaches students how to handle shipboard fires. The students will be instructed on the use of basic firefighting equipment, fire prevention measures, and how to maintain a state of readiness to combat fires onboard vessels. (2) First Aid/CPR: Students are taught in accordance with the standards put forth by the American Heart Association for basic first aid, automatic external defibrillator (AED) and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). (3) Personal Survival Techniques teaches students how to survive an at-sea emergency requiring them to abandon ship. They learn how to properly wear a life jacket and immersion suit; inflate a liferaft; and enter the water wearing a lifejacket and immersion suit. (4) Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities: Students learn safe working practices; proper shipboard communication; marine environmental awareness and compliance with emergency procedures.
