MUS 127 — C Music in Film 3 Units
Term Hours: 54 lecture. The class traces the history and development of film music through reading, lecture, film viewing, and critical analysis of seminal works. The class studies the process of film scoring and how music and its relationship to film have changed over the last century. Class includes discussion and evaluation of different compositional styles and learning to listen critically to film scores while viewing movies. Emphasis is placed on the theories and aesthetics that govern the use of music in film throughout the history of the artform. Western and non-western film traditions are included as well as works by composers with a variety of gender identities. (UC/CSU, AA GE)
