PHYS 101 — Physics for Engineers and Scientists I

Units: 5 Lecture Hours: 54 Lab Hours: 108 Outside Hours: 108 Grading Method: Letter Credit Status: Credit, degree applicable Conditions of Enrollment: Prerequisites: One year of High School Physics or PHYS 120 and MATH 190. The student learns the fundamental principles and applications of Newton's Laws in classical mechanics, including motion in one and two dimensions, gravitation, rotation, energy, momentum, periodic motion, and fluid mechanics at the beginning calculus level of mathematics. The laboratory includes both quantitative and qualitative experiments that permit students to verify, illustrate, and deduce various laws of physics.
