Studies literary arts and cultural expressions by African American authors, whose works are fundamental to American Literature. Prioritizes Black experience, worldview, and intellectual traditions in the study of African American literature and scholarship. Analyzes a range of literary expression, including folklore, fiction, nonfiction, poetry, lyrics, graphic novels and oral stories, in their historical, cultural, geographical, and political contexts.
