WLDG 1430 - Introduction to Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) WLDG 1430 - Introduction to Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) Principles of gas metal arc welding, set-up and use of Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) equipment, and safe use of tools/equipment. Instruction in various joint designs. Additionally, this is an overview of terminology, safety procedures, and equipment set-up. Practice in performing T-joints, lap joints, and butt joints using Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) equipment. Lab Required: Yes Note: Welding courses require strong basic math skills, the mental maturity and development to work daily with high voltage electrical, combustible gases, power tools, various chemical agents, extended periods of time standing in place, lifting heavy weights (up to 60 pounds repeatedly), reaching, bending, and working around open flames and intense heat.
