SO145 - Sociology of Gender SO145 - Sociology of Gender 3 Credit(s) This course is designed to familiarize you with the key concepts and debates that have guided the sociology of sex and gender over the past several decades. We will begin by examining the most basic premise of gender in relation to sociology. This basic premise is that biological sex and socially construction of gender are distinct. Sociological theories of gender, including explanations of the ways that gender intersects with other social categories, such as race, class, sexuality, and disability. Relationships between gender and social institutions including work, education, the media, the family, and the legal and political systems will be examined.
