Lectures explore core spatial concepts, critical cartography, and participatory mapping while learning foundational scientific methodologies and GIS technical skills. Examine relationships between mapping, representation, and power, including attention to naming, data ethics, concepts of place, and sovereignty. Hands-on labs and case studies that includes considering how mapping practices shape knowledge and can reinforce or challenge social and environmental inequalities emphasizing inclusive mapping practices and community-engaged applications.
