Respiratory Care/Therapy (Abilene Only) Respiratory therapists are members of a team of health care professionals working in a wide variety of clinical settings to evaluate, treat and manage patients of all ages with respiratory illnesses and other cardiopulmonary disorders. As members of this team, respiratory therapists should exemplify the standards and ethics expected of all health care professionals (American Association for Respiratory Care). The program’s goal is “to prepare graduates with demonstrated competence in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains of respiratory care practice as performed by registered respiratory therapists (RRTs).” HEALTH SCIENCE PROGRAMS DEGREE PLANS Respiratory Therapists must be sensitive to the needs of patients who have serious physical impairments, work well as a member of a team, have superior communication skills, have the ability to pay close attention to detail and follow instructions carefully.
