STS1302 - Introduction to Surgical Technology STS1302 - Introduction to Surgical Technology This course also includes an introduction to the sequence and principles of perioperative care as regards to the adult, pediatric, geriatric, bariatric and special needs patient care concepts. Discussion on types of consents, transportation and transfer of the surgical patient, perioperative patient routines, safety issues and death will be included. Students will be introduced to the skills necessary to function as a Surgical Technologist in the operating room including principles of aseptic technique, correct posture for scrubbing, gowning and gloving, draping and handling of specimens. The basic concepts of microbiology as they apply to the practice of surgery, including patient psychological needs and assessment and the process for obtaining consent for surgery will also be covered.
