CJS 2101 - Public Safety Response to Crisis Calls CJS 2101 - Public Safety Response to Crisis Calls Hours/Week: Lecture 1 Course Description: This course builds on prior content and skills and is intended for students interested in law enforcement and other first-responder careers with direct contact with people who may have mental health issues. It provides a brief review of behavioral health issues that peace officers and other first responders are often confronted with along with communication techniques and interventions that promote safety for clients, patients, caregivers and professionals. It focuses on scene safety as well as alternative strategies for responding to crises based on analyzing resources available in various communities. Students practice de-escalation through reality-based role-playing scenarios.
