Total Hours 16 EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN (EMT) (EMJ1) Technical Certificate of Credit **EFFECTIVE 202614: PROGRAM NO LONGER OFFERED** Prepares students to provide basic emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual will possess the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation. Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. EMTs perform interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance. The EMT is a link from the scene to the emergency health care system. Successful completion of the program allows the graduate to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians EMT certification examination and apply for Georgia licensure as an EMT. Criminal background checks and drug screens may be required based on the requirements for participation in clinical experiences..
