ESE490B — Student Teaching Traditional: Mild to Moderate Special Education 9-12

This ESE (Education Special Education) capstone course provides student teachers with the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills gained throughout their special education program in a real-world grades 9-12 classroom setting. Under the supervision of a certified special education teacher, this course ensures that student teachers are well prepared to meet the diverse needs of students with mild to moderate disabilities, fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and effective learning environment with a special emphasis on high school transition planning and career development. This immersive experience is designed to prepare student teachers for a successful career in special education, supporting students with mild to moderate disabilities at the secondary level. Prerequisite(s): Baccalaureate Degree and formal acceptance to the Central Arizona College state approved Post-Baccalaureate Special Education Program and capstone readiness approval are required before enrolling in this course. Students will enroll in this course the final 12 weeks of the program, completing 6 weeks of student teaching in grades K-8 (ESE480B) and 6 weeks of student teaching in grades 9-12 (ESE490B). Students will be placed in a grades 9-12 classroom under the auspice of a mentor teacher. This is the capstone experience required by the post baccalaureate program and must be completed to be eligible for Institutional Recommendation for state teaching certification.
