HIM 253 — Health Records Coding. (4 Credits)

Examines the development of coding classification systems. Introduces ICD-9-CM coding classification system, its format and conventions. Stresses basic coding steps and guidelines according to body systems. Provides actual coding exercises in relation to each system covered. Lecture 4 hours per week. Total 4 hours per week. Co-requisites: ( HLT 143 ) and ( BIO 145 or BIO 141 )
