Associate of Applied Science in Emergency Medical Technician- Paramedic The Associate of Applied Science degree in EMT-Paramedic is designed to provide students with the knowledge of extensive pre-hospital care and skills necessary to apply that knowledge effectively. Through classroom and laboratory exercise, and clinical practicum, the student is introduced to patient assessment, administration of drugs both orally and intravenously, interpretation of electrocardiograms (EKGs), performing endotracheal intubations, and use of monitors and other complex medical equipment. Graduates will find opportunities for employment in municipal fire departments, private ambulance services, hospitals, and private industry. The program combines didactic training, and practicum rotations. Upon successful completion of the program, the student will be eligible to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians Cognitive and Psychomotor Exams. This program is primarily aimed at providing education to EMTs desiring to move to the next level of certification. While other allied health professionals who have a current EMT certification are welcome and encouraged to attend this program, no courses will be waived. Upon successful completion of the program and required exit examinations, students will be eligible to test for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) Paramedic exam.
