Firefighter Essentials The Firefighter Essentials program is designed to provide students with the knowledge of modern municipal and rural fire protection and the skills to apply that knowledge effectively. Students are introduced to various aspects of the fire service through classroom and laboratory exercises. Students will experience a fast paced, high stress level of training that mimics modern fire service duties and requirements. This program is a career-ladder where Firefighter Essentials graduates who complete the certificate of proficiency in Firefighter Essentials are prepared to complete the remaining course required for their technical certificate in Firefighter Essentials. This program is structured as a 13-week training course. The first 11 weeks students will complete Firefighter Essentials in preparation for their Firefighter I and II exam. Then if the student is 18 years of age or older they can enroll for an additional 2 weeks of training to complete the driver operator course. (driver operator is not required to complete the CP) Required Courses 19 Hours Required
