STEM112 — STEM Cohort: Disability Access & Advocacy
2 CR Students will apply information learned in STEM 111 to enhance their resume and cover letter writing skills, and further explore STEM career pathways. They will continue developing their identity while understanding themselves within the context of power, privilege, and oppression and learn how that affects them at college and in the workplace. They will make use of their learnings of self-and-community advocacy while networking with disabled professionals, applying for internship opportunities, and the course will culminate in a group project on ableism and advocacy on the college campus. Identify potential instances of ableism, including access barriers, language use, attitudes, and more. Develop methods to advocate for changes to address ableism and other barriers in college systems. Plan STEM pathways based on an exploration through guest speakers, networking with professional mentors, and research. Utilize research, resume, and cover letter writing skills to apply for internship opportunities. GenEd
