1-10 CR This course examines the social, political, and economic development of the United States from the American Revolution through the beginning of the 20th century. It traces the westward expansion of the nation, rise of industry and cities, conflicts with other nations, and social and political reform movements. Readings and written assignments focus on the experiences of diverse groups, including women, African-Americans, immigrants, workers, and others. Students will also develop their civic identity through discussions of current events, building connections between past and present. Course
