NURS 1208 — Mental Health Nursing II 3 Credit Hours

This course focuses on the care of patients across the lifespan experienc- ing cognitive, mental and behavioral disorders. Emphasis is placed on management of patients facing emotional and psychological stressors, as well as promoting and maintaining the mental health of individuals and families. The concepts of patient-centered care, professionalism, clinical judgment and therapeutic communication are integrated throughout the course. Clinical experiences provide the student an opportunity to apply theoretical concepts and implement safe patient care to patients in a variety of settings. Prerequisite: NURS 1257 Medical Surgical Nursing III AND NURS 1259 Maternal Child Nursing II and Kansas LPN License and Admission to Nursing Program
