MENT 1005 — Communication in Mental Health 3 Credit Hours
This course explores the concepts associated with effective communi - cation strategies necessary to provide optimal services to individuals facing challenges with mental illness. Specifically, the course will focus on the person-centered approach which emphasizes the importance of rapport building and therapeutic communication to meet the needs of the client. This course will explore both challenges and barriers that may be present when working within the population of the mentally ill and ways to overcome these difficulties. Prerequisite: PSYC 1000 General Psychology with a grade of C or better AND PSYC 1006 Abnormal Psychology with a grade of C or better
